Slope Reinforcement with ParaGrid

A road passing through hilly terrain crossed over the confluence of two ravines where the embankement on one side was supported by a steep masonry wall. Probably due to an inadequate provision of drainage, a 60m stretch of road suffered a slip failure.

Having prepared a foundation platform, a reinforced soil retaining structure was built to provide the new foundation for the road embankment. The two-tiered slope totalling 7m in height was formed of compacted soil reinforced with layers of ParaGrid 100/25s wrapped around a soil bag facing. These bags eliminated the use of elaborate formwork.

Upon completion of the earthworks, the exposed earth surfaces of the retaining structure and the embankment side slopes were grass seeded.
