Bank Protection

Gabion retaining structures are used to stabilize slopes and for erosion control. Gabion structures are made from pre-assembled double twist wire mesh boxes filled with stones to form monolithic, flexible structures. Gabion walls will generally require less space at the base of the wall than a reinforced retaining wall. Gabions are free draining elements.

Terramesh® System is used to stabilize slopes, particularly fill slopes. The reinforcing meshes interact by friction and interlocking with the soil to achieve the desired stability. The gabion facing allows for erosion protection.

Gabion mattresses are use as a revetment to prevent erosion. Gabion mattresses are filled with stones to form monolithic flexible structures. Gabion mattresses are made with 8x10 meshes and form free draining structures. They are used for lining long sections; the standard units are 100 ft (30 m) long.

Reno mattresses are used as a revetment to prevent erosion. Reno mattresses are made of 6x8 meshes. They are filled with smaller rocks than the gabion mattresses. The units are generally smaller than the gabion mattresses. They can be used to form an apron for scour protection with other Maccaferri products.
