The importance of effective drainage behind structures, in underground mines, on roads and pavements, and within slopes is well known; however, it is often overlooked. Traditional granular material drains are often installed, taking up unnecessary space and without a real understanding of their true drainage capabilities.

Excess or uncontrolled water within soils can weaken them, causing numerous problems. The management of water from run-off, or from phreatic surfaces within the ground, is one of the most important aspects influencing the long term performance of that structure.

Maccaferri drainage solutions can replace traditional gravel drainage, offering faster installation, quantifiable performance and construction cost savings. Additionally, the reduction of gravel extraction and truck movements to and from the project site, serve to reduce project environmental impact.

Geotextiles, or geomembranes, bonded to one or both sides of the core ensure filtration, separation and protection of the core. Put simply, they stop the drainage core from becoming clogged by soils. By combining different geotextiles with various types of drainage core materials, Maccaferri aims to identify the most appropriate product for the specific application, in order to optimize the technical and economic needs.
