Rockfall Embankments

Protection against falling rock masses with extremely high energy levels is not feasible with rockfall barriers. Maccaferri has therefore developed rockfall embankments made of Terramesh®, which are able to withstand extremely high energy levels. Even though the overall size is comparable with that of traditional rockfall barriers, rockfall embankments easily withstand a multitude of impacts with very high energy levels and do so without any appreciable deformation or requiring extraordinary maintenance. Additionally, rockfall embankments have an enormous advantage of a negligible visual impact. The current experience allows for the design and construction of rockfall embankments with a height up to 20 m, with facings sloping up to 70°, and with a resistance of not less than 20,000 kJ.
