Gabion Mats
Often situations arise in bank, channel, and shore protection where a 12" or 18" flexible revetment is needed. In many cases t his protection can cover a broad surface area, and the use of individual box gabions, while effective, may require extensive connection time. To meet such requirements, Maccaferri has introduced the Gabion Mat
The Gabion Mat is a rectangular container made of heavily galvanized steel wire woven in a double-twist, hexagonal mesh pattern. It is supplied in roll of 100' long by 6' or 9' wide. The Gabion Mat saves installation time when compared to traditional gabion units.
As an alternative to "rip-rap" and other semi-rigid structures, Gabion Mats provide:
- A monolithic structure as a cost-effective alternative to "rip-rap"
- A strong structure able to withstand the hydro-dynamic drag and lift forces.
- A flexible structure able to settle and deform without failure and loss of efficiency.
- A structure without the surface irregularities which often cause "rip-rap" failure.
- A structure that does not need costly preparation of the base material.
- A structure that covers a larger area than traditional gabions.
